For the process industry, VEGA promotes the use of standardized, digital data packages in accordance with VDI 2770, thereby boosting efficiency. Users get fast, structured access to all relevant product documents and can even automate the documentation of entire process engineering systems.
“A thick ring binder full of paper documents for just one measuring point is unfortunately not that unusual,” said Stefan Kaspar, product manager at VEGA. “This creates a huge mountain of paper that our customers have to spend a lot of time and manpower on.” VEGA is now putting an end to this: Making documents available according to VDI 2770 in a structured, machine-readable format enables automated processing and saves valuable working time.
Plant operators benefit from the seamless integration of VEGA documentation into existing systems. The key to this is the .xml file format. Each document is assigned an xml file with a serialized ID link in accordance with IEC 61406, which is also printed as a QR code on the type labels of the field instruments. This makes direct access to the specific instrument documentation possible by scanning the QR code on the respective field instrument. VEGA also focuses on security, allowing users to access the customized documentation only via their personal myVEGA account.
With the introduction of the VDI 2770-compliant data packages, VEGA is making an important contribution to the digital transformation of the process industry. “Our solution is a small but crucial preliminary step towards the digital twin,” explained Kaspar.
